To The Quilting Ladies In Clermont Florida.

I recently traveled to Clermont, Fl. with my mother and sister to my aunt’s memorial service, Mrs. Virginia Austin York. Aunt “Sis” is what we called her. She was so much like Mrs. Crumly in loving everything about nature, gardening, food and of course quilting. I just did not know that I enjoyed talking about quilts as much as I do until we lost Mrs. Crumly. She was so patient in explaining in detail about several of her quilts. I just wished I could remember everything.

Aunt Sis was a world traveler and loved all things from the by-gone days. She had many pictures and quilts from the Austin family.  Quilts that my great-grandmother had made and maybe even some before that. The Austin ladies have always been big on making quilts. She had all the quilts of my “Nanie” Austin’s I know.  These are photos of the memorial table that my cousin Judy set up in memory of Aunt Sis. You will see two different quilts under the photos. I think I shocked some people standing around when I said something about the “Flower Garden” quilt.

After the service we went over to a home and had a meal and great fellowship. Many of the quilting friends of Aunt Sis came over so of course I had to share with them this web blog and some history about Mrs. Billie Crumly. So nice to see how excited they were to pass the information along to the rest of the group at their Monday meeting.
