That Lady Loved To Sew.

DSCN3464-005Went over to The Windy Knoll yesterday to visit with Mr. John. Even at 90+ years I really think that man could out run a bear. Thankful we don’t see any bear around this part of Sand Mountain, but they are here. Amazing how we love our animals and we drive to the Smokies to see bears, but that is not a reason to go anymore. Man, money, what ever you call it, are building and building so much that the bears are coming here from Tennessee and Georgia.  No where else for them to go. Won’t be long we will need to keep a close watch on our indoor and outdoor pets. Oh wow, now I am writing like Donna, chased that rabbit, or bear in the case right off of topic.

Back to Mr. John. While doing our normal conversation in the south, weather, time, birds, life, well you get the point. Mr. John mentioned something about needing to find a little box that he just had to have to put something back in it. Well, here we go, he gave me permission to look for it over, under and in between anything. Oh wait, lets chase another rabbit, well in this case a bird. I was looking through some of my photos on my computer and just happened to find this little friend. I shot this over at The Windy Knoll this past summer. DSCN1061-001

Now I said all that to say in this short little blog, that that lady loved to sew. If there was a place to put something, it had something to do with sewing. Almost afraid to put my hand in some places because of all the needles.

Oh how I would love to just hear one more story about a quilt or her special tatting. That lady could do anything with a pin or needle. I would bet if you put all the thread she has used in her 85 years on earth it would go to California and back. Maybe even in back to California again. That lady, Mrs. Billie Lang Crumly sure loved to sew.

We looked and looked and still did not find the boxes we were looking for. Mr. John said, “we’ll just get some boxes and wrap it up in paper and that will just have to do this time.” And that we did. You know I hear back in the day a Sears and Roebuck catalog was used for many different reasons. I’ll let someone else write about that one day. Beth, Donna, who’s it gonna be?

So there it is, just another day of country living.

Yep. John Crumly has always been on the move and he learned early or to just jump up an get what he wanted it it wasn’t on the table. Mother told of one time she had a friend there to eat and after dinner her friend said to her, “Billie, you don’t tend to John’s need very much, do you?” I can just imagine that mother said something like, “Well, John knows he can be up and get whatever just as easy as I can and he will have it done twice as quick!” You see, my mother believed in equal opportunity long before it was put into law, she had put it into practice. Dad has always been somewhat of a wiggle worm and he just had to be getting up and down and still does at 90 years old. Although now I do find him moving to find something she has lost. She often said that in the later years they were always looking for something that had been lost. My, my, I too find myself searching for more things that I have misplaced more than I once did. Guess this is just another part of country living, even in the city!
