Aunt Bill Rambles — the boot

Lordy me, I guess you’uns knowed Billie has a bunged up foot.  Well, she has to wear the awfullest boot you ever see’d and she’s about wore one of her legs out dragging that thang around.  Now she can take hit off, but can’t git hit on and pore ole John has to git in the floor to fasten hit.  I told her if folks could figure out a way to git to the moon, then they ort to be able to make sompin’ better’n this fer what they call a “stress fracture.”  Y, she don’t eben know how she done it.

She hadn’t had a sharer in two or three weeks and some women come last week to tell her how to git a bath.  You ain’t never seen the lack in your life — y, that woman put the bad foot in a kitchen garbage can liner and then taped hit up and off they went to the sharer.  I could hear Billie and me in the other room — she was taking on about how good that felt — and I know’d hit would make her feel better if she could git a bath.  Atter she rested some from that ordeal she felt a heap better.

I jist haf to tell you’uns about that young gal at the doctor’s office — she had her finger nails a half inch long and at the ends they’s white.  I ain’t never seen nothing lack it.  She had sompin’ else painted on the nail — a apple or sompin’.  As we’s a-comin’ out I ast her, “Hon you don’t work in the yard and make biscuits do you?

Billie goes back to that woman foot doctor next week and I do hope she can hang that boot up — she’s been a-wantin’ to make some cookies, but ain’t felt lack it.  You can’t be without sweets in this house long — John loves the sweet stuff and the Christmas goodies is about gone.  But I recken this kind of thang goes along with country living, too.

Billie. I have been reading your ramblings, etc. for several weeks now. Enjoy them very much!
A few weeks ago you commented on the fact that you had not seen the ground spewed up from the cold for a long time – I also voiced that to a friend recently. I am pretty sure it was a little spewed this morning. You think the cold temperatures is our fault??
