Aunt Bill Rambles – Losses

Ain’t this purty weather?  I think I’ve told you’uns about this before, but I jist have to remind you.  I used to know a woman what lived in Habersham County, Georgie — now that’s way up there in them purty north Georgie mountains — and she said they always went to see Grandma that purty spell in February.  Well, I reckon this has been jist that — the purty spell in February.

We have the awfulest time around here losing thangs.  The big thang for the last few months is John’s chain saw.  Y, they’s no tellin’ how long that thang’s been missing.  He decided he left it at a shop up the mountain from where we live and he went there huntin’ hit.  Them workers all stopped what they’s a-doin’ and looked high and low, but no chain saw.  Well, when he come back he tried to quiet his mind by sayin’ he guessed somebody stold it.  Well last week he wuz a gettin’ some little pots together for me plant the tomato seed in and reached his hand down in a pile of shucks in a wheel barrow — down at the shed on the side of the barn — wouldn’t you know it?  There was the chain saw.  He had stood in that spot and shucked corn to feed the guinea and jist throwed them shucks in the wheelbarrow.  On my!  Well another thang that’s lost is his tire gauge that he kept hanging on the side of the air compressor — I do hope hit will show up jist the way the chain saw did.

Hit ain’t no different here in the house either.  I had a black jacket lost — hit’s one I wear in the house when the weather’s so cold.  We both combed this house over and over and I found hit hanging in the computer room.  Y, hit never had been in that spot before!!  Now I’ve lost a green cap that I wear when the weather’s so cold — I don’t have a clue where that cap is and hit’s one that I knitted.  Maybe I’ll find hit next summer when I don’t need it.  That’s jist what I done one July — I found some candy I had put for Christmas!!  On top of hit all — we lost the checkbook last week, but John found hit in the floorboard of the truck.  He don’t want no body messing with his money.  Ha!!  This here is Windy Knoll country living.
