Aunt Bill Rambles About Slow Time
This jist vexes me to death. I don’t see nair bit of sense in changing the time every few months. When I’s growing up we didn’t do no sich thing — time wuz time — period! I can’t remember when this thing called Daylight Saving Time started — it might have been during World War II — hit had sumpin’ to do with more daylight hours for people who work on paying jobs. Hit never did make no sense to the farmer — the sun come up atter daylight jist lack it all-as did and he worked from dawn ’til dark no matter how the clock read. If he’s a-goin’ to meetin’ er any place lack that he had to run on fast time in the summer and slow time in the winter. Hit ain’t all-as been Daylight Saving Time this many months either. I’ll say agin — hit vexes me to death!
Now we lived in Georgie we’d come over here to visit — remember Georgie time is one hour ahead of Alabama time to start with. My man’s Mama and Papa never would change their clocks to fast time and hit was a mess when we come here with chillurn — hungry little ones and hit would be 12 o”clock by our Georgie time and at their house hit would be 10 o’clock.
Why they (whoever they is) don’t leave hit one way or tuther’n is more’n I can understand. Even our preacher called yistiddy to tell us to change the clocks. Y, what business wuz that of the preachers? He needs to run the church’s business and let the clock changing be somebody’s else’s business.
Night will git here a hour earlier –in December hit will git dark here at The Windy Knoll about 4:00 o’clock and that makes the nights looooong. I dread winter time anyway and this slow time makes hit worse. Anyway ye look at it — it’s still country living.
