Aunt Bill Rambles

This week I ast Billie if’n I could tell you folks about her wall hanging.  When she belonged to East Cobb Quilt Guild in Marietta, Georgie she wuz give three pieces of material and wuz allowed to use a extra piece or two and had to make a wall hanging.

Well she decided to use the home-place type of house with something lack Sand Mountain in the background.  She turned some of the pieces wrong side outards to make the trees and sich.  She used Clorox water to make the clouds in the sky and notice her dog, Sister, is in the yard.  Y, she evem “built” a rock chimley — sorta lack the one on the end of her old house.

Then she had to come up with a name fer this piece and she called hit “My Home’s in Alabama” and that wuz a bit hit song for the Alabama Band group.  Billie took  four corner pieces to Fort Payne (the home of the Alabama Band), which is 25  miles away from where we live and also the County Seat of DeKalb County — as you probably already know  that’s where the museum for the Alabama Boys is at, too.  She left them corners with some woman there and ast if each of the four boys in the group would sign a corner.  Would you believe they did?  Of course, when she got um back she finished the piece — done a little quilting and put a binding on it.  She’s showed it lots of times, but hit never won a prize and that’s all right — she treasures this piece of fabric art anyway.  She used the same house pattern she had used in her Baltimore Quilt and she said she free-handed the rest — whatever that means.  This is just another part of country living.
