Pick me! Pick me! I know! I know!
It is a caladium and it was a plant that the mother plant had belonged to my Grandmother. Billie Crumly’s mother, Exie McDaniel Lang.
I have one too but mine is not quite as big as yours. I winter it inside the well insulated and warmed a little room in the garage with natural light and just try to give it a little water about once a week during the winter. Just enough to keep it green and not expect it to grown. Mother told me last year that the big black wash pot that she brought it in with dirt too, of course, needed the dirt changed. YEA RIGHT! When in Sam Hill would I have time to change the dirt. Since it is just not growing but managing OK, I guess it will have to be done when I get finished with the hospital duty that will start on Monday next week. 7:30 a.m. Aug 25. Pray all goes well.
The article was so much about the Windy Knoll and I like those the best. I was over the past weekend and have some I need to write. Made pix. I also found yesterday some Billie Crumly Pot holders. Anyone who has been lucky enough to get one of these holds on to it because you just don’t burn your hands through it and it only takes one to do the trick. The new ones are just cloth to be pretty but these are working pot holders for real cooks.

Same here, Emily. Have always called those plants Elephant Ears.

Really good article, Russ, and lovely pictures. I have always called that plant ‘elephant ears’ too. Don’t know the Latin name, but I think that is what people commonly call it around here.
