Another Report from the Home Place
“When it rains it pours” is an old saying I’ve heard all my life and I truly believe it. Last week in my report I told you about air conditioning problems and that we were waiting for a plumber. Well the water problem kept getting worse and at this writing we have a new water pump in the bottom of the well. I can’t believe how this almost 89 year-old man could crawl out and in the pump house over and over and do part of the pump replacement. Being small stature he could get in the tight quarters better than some. I’m sure he played a big part in the electrical part, as that’s his specialty. He has always done all our repairs, but now he’s too old and we can’t make him believe it. How he could do this job (had some help) in 90+ degrees is more than I can understand. I’m worn out from all the worrying . The wheel in front of the pump house was used in pulling the old pump/pipe out of the 144 ft. deep well. At this writing (Sunday morning) there is no water at the corner sink which is located in the bathroom nearest the pump. We assume it’s clogged up with sand and dirt — the water was quite muddy when the new pump was first installed.
Well the air conditioner is about the same. I wouldn’t be surprised when I write the next report if we don’t have a new one. Duh! Every pot has a bottom you, one would think money grows on trees around here the way we’re spending it.
My good friend has had surgery and as is the southern custom, we made a big pot of vegetable soup with the intention of sharing with that family — even made Mexican cornbread to go with it. However, under the circumstances I don’t see how we can drive the 25 miles to deliver it. As my mother used to say “circumstances alter cases.”
We still have two happy fat cats. Spud sleeps in a chair here on the porch and Jerry has slept on a rug in front of the door so he had to be walked around all this busy day.
It’s just another Windy Knoll report on country living.
