Mature Porter Weed

As you can readily see, I’m out of a subject this morning. My mind is blank!! LOL

You may remember that I planted tomato seed about the middle of February (planted according to the almanac) and have separated them.  They are growing; however, they are spindly.  When they get a little larger I’ll pinch the top out so they will quit growing up.  Somebody criticized the spindly plants last year and I told them we would plant them deeper when they go to the garden.  Anyway gardening is on the way.  John has threatened to plow up our garden spot this week, but it’s still too wet.

This sun porch is littered with various plants.  We try to save Porter Weed every year, but this year we almost lost the several plants.  It’s a Florida plant and will not winter over here.  We had these young cuttings in the basement and it must have been too cold there to suit them.  I wonder, too, if they were kept wet enough.  Several years ago I read about Porter Weed in Southern Living Magazine and almost wore the computer out trying to find it.  What I have is blue and there are other colors. I’ve had a pink one, but lost it.  The magazine said it was a butterfly attractor, but I disagree.  Butterflies like a blossom they can land on — this plant blooms up the stem.  I really do like it and wonder if the hummingbirds don’t enjoy it more than butterflies.

Speaking of hummingbirds — our friends have their feeder out already. One year they saw a hummer on March 11.  That’s another job to be done at the Windy Knoll.  If I’m not mistaken, we need new feeders — you can only keep them so long, you know.  Whatever, it’s all country living.
