A Country Living Quilt

The quilt in the picture has to be one of the favorites I’ve made and there’ve been a few.  I call the quilt A Country Living Quilt because it’s setting is farm scenes and items.  Then my memory goes back to when I really got into quilting.

I had worked all those years and quilting was put by the wayside.  I lived in Marietta, GA and saw an ad where a quilting class was to be held in Stone Mountain — a good hour’s drive away — and I signed up.  Life has never been the same.  I grew up around quilt making and even after we married we had to have quilts to stay warm and I made several; however, this was a new kind of quilting for me.  Among other things — planned quilts, real patterns and purchased fabric. Wow!

Back to the quilt picture — as you know, we hosted a number of quilt shows here at the Windy Knoll on behalf of the Geraldine Library and this was a raffle quilt I made.  I used hodge-podge squares — some were four pieced, some were two pieced and different sizes.  To fill in I made applique squares of landscape, a block with a barbed wire fence, baskets of various sizes and an umbrella.  Some of the applique blocks had signs on them — such as No Fishing and Eggs for Sale.  On one larger square I appliqued a barn.  Then I pieced the border to make it look even more country.  Needless to say, this is my kind of quilt and now that I no longer quilt — I yearn to do another like this — it was such a pleasure and stress free.  For me this has to be some of the best of country living.
