The Fallout Shelter
Some months ago our refrigerator went out and, of course, now appliances are made to replace and that’s what we did. Remember we live in the country (on a dirt road) and keep lots of “stuff” in the freezer. Well, before I went to church yesterday I wanted to bake some chicken breasts which I thought were in the side-by-side fridge. After a quick look by us both no chicken breasts were found. With me saying they were not there, John went anyway to the large freezer to take a look. When he came back empty-handed we began to dig deeper in the side-by-side. What a mess! The first thing you know half the items in the freezer were in the floor and this happens over and over — thus the name fallout shelter. We found the breasts after a bit, but I hate that side-by-side and I thought it was the very thing to buy. To think we spent hard-earned money for such! I had never owned a side-by-side, but I thought to have one of those beauties in my kitchen was the very thing. Wrong!!! I dare say the designer was not a country woman — maybe not even a country man.
I want to use the pronoun “whoever” as the old mountain people used it. I think “ever who” it was that designed this monster ought to be tarred and feathered. You might say I have two side-by-sides — my first one and my last one.
In my opinion, a side-by-side is not one of the best parts of country living.
