New Hand Dealt the Octogenarian

Let me begin this by saying I’m violating my own rules — writing about my aliments, etc.  Apologies!

Comparing living this life to playing cards, indeed, I’ve been dealt a new  hand —  a stress fracture just behind my little toe and now I have a pretty, black, heavy and very cumbersome boot.  Therein, lies one of the many challenges with playing this hand.  Not only do I have the walker to contend with, but now the boot as well.  We were given no hands-on instructions and getting this booger off and on is a major challenge for two old codgers.  Now I can take the boot off when I go to bed, but here is yet another challenge –with all the wrapping on the foot and ankle it acts like Velcro between the covers.  I have to be in complete control of my tongue when I’m attempting to change positions.

New Boot

I know we’re supposed to give thanks in all things and I have a lot for which to be thankful.  The One I Love Best and I are still at home and I can blog, knit, tat, crochet, get acquainted with a new laptop and read.  I heard about a man with lots of problems and somebody asked him how  he could be thankful and he said he was thankful that things were no worse than what they were.  Maybe I can say that, too.  I have a very simple scarf on my knitting needles and enjoy doing that one because there is no pattern to keep up with.

Spud knows something is not right and he seems concerned, but still rides on the walker as I move slowly from Point A to Point B.  His name was Tom but he wanted to sleep on the sofa all the time and I called him a couch potato, and then changed his name to Spud.  He is a honey.

I’ve made a vow to myself (and to John) that I’ll stay on the positive side, keep my chin up and with God’s help come out of this with flying colors and be a stronger person as a result.  This is a different kind of country living.
