A Windy Knoll Report
Whew! This week has been a whirlwind around the Windy Knoll — yes, I know for the younger families this is only the norm. Two octogenarians have trouble keeping up and it’s not over.
First off, so many jobs need to be done in the yard — my poor gardener can’t begin to keep up — let alone all he does inside the house. Since frost visited we have lots of plants that need to be cut off and wintered down. The oranges under the Tri-Foliar Orange make the ground yellow where they lay. We would like to visit the dump some time just to see if they have a good supply of Tri-Foliar Orange seedlings — at least John has sent enough there to make a good supply.
For several weeks the golf cart has been on the blink and that’s my transportation to and from my favorite scope of woods. There is where we one time had a wonderful shade garden and, even though it’s been abandoned there are oodles of beautiful sights to be seen. I can just imagine the ground is ablaze with color there with all the falling leaves. The golf cart has been worked on and looked at by more than one, but is now in the hospital for which I’m thankful.
Another annoying this happened this week — I got an e-mail from a reader that she had ordered a quilting tape and had not received it. I had not received an order — or at least I didn’t know I had. I had to fumble around on this machine to see what I could find. I know so little about the computer — I told her I only knew how to turn it off and on!! I’m a novice, to say the least, about Pay Pal and that’s where it all took place. Loosing a little sleep and trying to figure it all out I finally got that going — I sent her a book, too, to make up for the inconvenience and delay.
I’ve told you before about reading the book series about Miss Julia. Well, I ordered the latest book last week and, of course, this week it arrived. I ordered a second hand because that saved a few dollars. I am livid!! When it came it was not from Amazon, but from another book company and was clearly marked “Uncorrected copy and not for resale.” A preacher’s wife told me one time that life’s just one damn thing after another and how true — how true.
I knew we were having a group of four little girls for Halloween and not only did I want to have goodies for them to eat — I also wanted to knit ear warmers for them — they are the cutest little people — and I got the accomplished along with knitting ear warmers for the church bazaar tomorrow.
Yesterday we had a visitor from a local paper who wanted to do an article on your humble writer. Duh! She told me she wanted to talk a lot about food. Would you believe I quickly lead her astray by saying my first love is quilting. As I look back, I don’t believe she got what she came for — food talk — and I’m sorry I talked about everything else but food.
Now today Georgia company is dropping by and this daughter seldom gets to come, so we have to make cheese straws — that’s her very favorite. Wow!! We desperately need to get out of the fast lane.
During all this we try to prepare meals, do the laundry and keep the house in some degree of order. Oh my — this, too, is country living.
